Croke Park Access Control Upgrade

Client

Home of the GAA, Croke Park is Ireland’s National Stadium, and with capacity for 82,300 people. Not only has Croke Park witnessed epic sporting battles on the pitch, but they’ve also played host to a who’s who of international rock, pop and other music acts, performing sell-out shows to hundreds of thousands of music lovers, travelling from all over the world during the summer months. As well as this Croke Park is also one of the world’s most unique, sustainable, and flexible meeting and event venues. The nature and size of the events held in Croke Park places a very high level of importance on the stadium’s security systems.

Client Requirements

Croke Park wanted to create a state-of-the-art security system by replacing and upgrading their existing Access Control system, with as little down time as possible. This included continued maintenance in service of existing readers and cards up until the agreed changeover date to the new system.

Our Solution

After reviewing the existing system, the Mongey Communications team planned and implemented a full Access Control system upgrade which included equipment upgrades / replacements at every one of the access-controlled doors throughout the stadium, replacement of several master controllers, migration to new server and the replacement of all access control operator PCs. As part of the process Mongey Communications also upgraded equipment firmware and system software throughout to the latest available manufacturer releases. For this project the Mongey team also looked after the replacement of biometric access devices in high security areas, with associated new enrolment devices and also the integration of additional off-site stand-alone access control installations over the Association’s Wide Area Network. As part of the works they also undertook a full preventative maintenance and standby battery replacement cycle across all devices.

In tandem with our works, the Croke Park operations team undertook a comprehensive review and update of their legacy cardholders’ database, originated new card art-work, and pre-programmed and printed new access cards for all stadium staff and contractors, with outright replacement of all (c. 350) stadium staff and contractor ID cards carried out. These replacement cards were issued shortly prior to the changeover weekend so that personnel swiped out on Friday evening with their old cards and swiped in again seamlessly on the following Monday with the new ones.

This project took 8 months from initial conception, proposal and project plan through completion / commissioning to handover. As part of our mission for sustainability all obsolete electronic equipment removed from site were disposed through WEEE recycling.

The entire changeover exercise went off without a glitch on time and on budget as planned, due in large measure to the careful and methodical planning undertaken, and the close co-operation and consistent communications between Mongey Communications and the Stadium Operations and GAA IT Teams.

Whatever your requirements, we can provide a complete solution from project design, to installation, through to on-site support, so you can rest assured that your next event will be a huge success.
